The explosions in Kyiv occurred during a massive Russian missile attack on Ukraine. There are numerous damages to residential and critical infrastructure in the capital. The Okhmatdyt children’s hospital has been destroyed. Unfortunately, there were no fatalities.
Kyiv explosions now
Update at 17:20. The State Emergency Service reported that 22 people died in Kyiv on July 8, and 72 others were injured as a result of a Russian missile strike.
Kyiv city authorities have declared July 9 a day of mourning in the capital in connection with Russia’s terrorist attack on civilian objects in Kyiv.
– On this day, flags on all municipal buildings in the city will be at half-mast. It is also recommended that state flags on public and private buildings be flown at half-mast. On July 9, any entertainment events are prohibited in the city,” said Vitaliy Klychko.
“Train traffic on the red line of the Kyiv subway has been restored as usual as of 16:30. All stations of the ground section are open for passenger transportation.
Earlier it was reported that trains on the red line of the metro run from Akademmistechko station to Arsenalna. The restrictions were introduced for security reasons and to fully inspect the open section after the massive rocket attack on the capital.
As of 15.30, 20 people were reported dead and 61 injured as a result of the Russian attack on Kyiv.
Rescue operations are underway at the site of the destruction of the Okhmatdyt children’s hospital. Children and staff are being evacuated to other municipal medical facilities in Kyiv. Search operations are also underway in the Solomensky district, where several floors of a multi-storey building have been destroyed.
Updated at 13:10. Due to Russian rocket fire in Kyiv, the Okhmatdyt children’s hospital was hit.
As a result of the rocket attack and explosions in Kyiv, debris was recorded falling in Solomyansky, Dniprovskyi, Darnytskyi, Svyatoshinskyi, Desnianskyi, Shevchenko and Holosiivskyi districts. Preliminary data:
- in Solomyanskyi district, two floors of a multi-storey building were damaged, 1,500 square meters of the area was destroyed; seven people died. A fire broke out and has been extinguished. The rubble is being cleared.
- in Holosiivskyi – garages were damaged, cars are burning;
- in Dniprovskyi, debris is burning in residential buildings.
- a private house was damaged in Darnytskyi district, one woman was injured;
- in Svyatoshynskyi district, debris is burning near a residential building; a fire broke out in the premises of an enterprise;
- a house is on fire in Desnianskyi district;
- in the Shevchenkivskyi district, the Okhmatdyt children’s hospital was damaged, there is significant destruction. The rubble is being cleared. Also, a residential high-rise building was damaged in the area – the first to third floors were destroyed. Information about the victims is being clarified.
Fifteen people were reported dead and 38 injured.
In addition, three DTEK transformer substations in Holosiivskyi and Shevchenkivskyi districts were completely destroyed or damaged. There is damage to the power grid. Power engineers are already working on the ground. Most buildings will be powered by backup power sources.
According to Mayor Vitaliy Klychko, one entrance to a residential building in Syrka was completely destroyed. Several others are heavily damaged. Rescuers are now trying to get people out from under the rubble, and their voices can be heard.
Consequences of the explosions in Kyiv
According to the National Police of Ukraine, as of 13:04, two people have been reported dead on the territory of Okhmatdyt. Police, rescuers, National Guard, doctors and passers-by are clearing the rubble of the destroyed building.
It is known that at the time of the enemy attack, two children were being operated on in the hospital.
Vitaliy Klychko later reported that two men injured in today’s rocket attack by the Russian enemy died in a Kyiv hospital.
