EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell believes that “the next 15 days will be decisive in the war in Ukraine”.
In an interview with the Spanish La Hora de la 1, he said that Moscow does not plan to take any discussions seriously until it achieves its goals of a full-scale invasion in Ukraine.
According to Borrel, the Russian government is not yet interested in negotiations on a ceasefire in Ukraine, as the Russian army has not achieved its military goals.
At the moment, Russia does not want to sit down at the negotiating table and agree on anything: it wants to occupy the territories. It wants to have serious negotiations only when it secures its strong position, – Borrel said.
In addition, in his opinion, “it is not easy to agree on a ceasefire when someone wants to continue the war”.
Borrel explained that the end of the war “would not be a matter of 48 hours“, but and everything would depend on the Ukrainian resistance, “which can last as long as possible”. Therefore, he stressed that it is important to continue to help Ukraine by sending more weapons.
