If the International Criminal Court recognizes the war crimes of Russian troops involved in these crimes, they can be detained in any country that recognizes the jurisdiction of the UN court.
This was announced by the Minister of Justice of Ukraine Denys Maliuska.
According to him, 42 countries have already filed applications and supported the investigation of the UN International Court of Justice against persons who committed crimes against humanity and genocide of the Ukrainian people.
– It is difficult for me to imagine a civilized European country that would not detain or extradite a war criminal to the International Criminal Court, such as a political or military leader from Russia,”- Maliuska said.
According to him, such a sentence will mean that a diplomatic passport will not help the Russians, so they will be imprisoned in any European or other country that recognizes the jurisdiction of the International Court of Justice, transferred to the Hague and receive punishment.
According to the Minister of Justice, the Russian leadership is very afraid of such a serious risk.
It will be recalled that the UN International Court of Justice in the Hague has opened a case on Ukraine’s lawsuit against Russia.
Ukraine demanded that the court recognize Russia’s military invasion of Ukraine as genocide, and that Russia immediately stop hostilities that began on February 24, 2022. After that, Ukraine will demand reparations, ie compensation for the damage caused.
