Colombia is ready to increase energy production to replace Russian imports
Colombia is ready to play a major role in providing Western countries with energy resources to replace imports from Russia.
This was stated by Colombian President Ivan Duque.
– North American and European countries know for sure that they can no longer count on the supply of energy from Russia. Can Colombia contribute to the problem? The answer is yes, Duque said.
Duque listed three areas where Colombia is ready to increase production: traditional oil and gas production and renewable energy sources – hydrogen and coal.
– Today, Colombia can immediately increase the volume of coal. We have some of the largest resources in the world, and we don’t use them to generate electricity, – Duque said.
The President also noted that Colombia will increase coal supplies to Germany, which recently approved plans to gradually reduce imports of Russian coal.
Duque spoke about this after direct talks with Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
The President of Colombia also supported Biden’s opinion that Russia’s actions in Ukraine are genocide of the Ukrainian people.
– What is happening in Ukraine is genocide. And it must stop. This is madness, – said the President of Colombia.
