The draft conclusions of the EU summit state the decision to grant Ukraine candidate status

The draft conclusions of the meeting of the European Council, which is take place on June 23-24 in Brussels, stipulate the decision to grant Ukraine the status of a candidate for accession to the European Union. According to a document available to one of the Ukrainian news agencies, it is planned to make a decision on granting candidate status to Ukraine and Moldova.
The European Commission is obliged to report to the Council of the EU on the fulfillment of the conditions of the countries that have applied for EU membership. The Council will decide on further steps when all obligations are fully implemented, the document said.
The European Council is also ready to grant Georgia candidate status once the main priorities have been identified. According to the findings, each country’s path to the European Union will depend on action in accordance with the Copenhagen criteria.
EU leaders can take the relevant decisions on the first day of the summit on June 23, as this is the first issue. The summit will start at 15.00 Brussels time (at 16.00 Kyiv time).
European Council President Charles Michel and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen will be informed about the decision to grant Ukraine the status of a candidate for membership in the European Union, which is to be adopted during the summit.
