Poland supports the continuation of sanctions against Russia, particularly regarding the suspension of the Visa Facilitation Agreement for citizens of the Russian Federation due to its invasion of Ukraine, and is already working on a concept that will allow Russians to be denied visas.

This was stated by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland, Piotr Wawzyk.

At the same time, the Polish diplomat admitted that not all EU countries agree on this.

Watching now

– Germany, France, and the Netherlands are opposed. Because it was impossible to overcome these countries’ resistance regarding the suspension of the Agreement on simplifying the visa regime for citizens of the Russian Federation, Poland is working on a new solution, he emphasized.

According to him, Warsaw is negotiating this topic with some EU countries, stressing that their plans will be supported by Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia.

Vavzyk reminded us that Poland has not been issuing tourist visas to Russians for several months, only those citizens of the Russian Federation who are forced to cross the border due to work receive them – these are truck drivers, diplomats, as well as persons who have a Pole’s Card and family members of Polish citizens.

The issue of suspending the issuance of Schengen visas to citizens of the Russian Federation is being discussed in the European Union.

However, this decision is the prerogative of the member state, which must guarantee the issuance of visas for certain categories.
