In Latvia, €300,000 was collected in one day for the Bayraktar medium-altitude strike unmanned aerial vehicle for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This was stated by the co-initiator of fundraising for Bayraktar and Latvian TV presenter Ralfs Eilands.
According to him, on the second day of the meeting, Latvian residents already collected €300,000 for Ukraine. In total, about €5 million is needed for the drone. They decided to implement this initiative after he talked with the Ukrainian ambassador to Latvia and other diplomats.
– I asked how we can help Ukraine. They said that it is best to buy Bayraktar. We discussed the possibility of purchasing other types of weapons, but it was explained to us that it would be very difficult for the charitable foundation to purchase them even if funds were available. And this option is the most realistic, – he emphasized.
Eilands said that after the collection is completed, the money will be transferred to the Ministry of Defense of Latvia. Even then, the institution will purchase the Bayraktar drone from Turkey and send it to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
