Ukraine proposes to create a tank alliance to supply Leopard 2

Ukraine asked German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to create a European tank alliance that would allow the transfer of 200 Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine.
Andriy Melnyk, Ukraine’s expatriate in Germany, told Die Welt.
– A dozen countries (in Europe – Ed.) have 2 thousand Leopard 2 tanks. If each of these countries cedes about 10 percent of this to Ukraine, we could create a whole army of 200 or more tanks to liberate the occupied territories faster, – Melnyk said.
He noted that one of Ukraine’s priorities for military assistance is armored vehicles.
– We now need everything that can be delivered quickly: Leopard-2 tanks and Marder BMPs, more artillery, and ammunition, – Melnyk said.
He added that Ukraine counts on military support from Germany and, in the long term, especially from the Navy and Air Force.
– German ships, corvettes, frigates, and submarines are the best in the world. The same goes for the German Air Force. All this has to be ordered years in advance because such military equipment is expected for a very long time, – Melnyk said.
According to him, this is his last request to the German coalition.
On July 9, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy fired Ambassador to Germany Andriy Melnyk by his decree. In his post as ambassador to Germany, Melnyk was remembered for harsh criticism of German politicians dragging their feet in supporting Ukraine during the confrontation with Russia’s full-scale aggression.
