Poland plans to cancel housing payment for Ukrainians: when it can happen and conditions

Polish authorities are preparing an update of the law on assistance to Ukrainian refugees, which provides for the introduction of payment for housing provided by the state. This applies to staying in places of collective accommodation, for example, in various centers, hostels, guest houses, etc.
This was stated by the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Poland Pavlo Shefernaker on the air of RMF radio station.
In the first three months, the payment will be 50%. If during this time a person does not find a job and will not be able to rent housing on his/her own, he/she will have to pay 100% for accommodation in the centers provided by the state.
The government also wants to freeze social benefits for people who receive them in Poland, but are not in the country every day.
– We want people who really live, work and function in our society to receive benefits. If such a person leaves our country and returns after a while, then, according to the procedure of the relevant agency, it will be found out whether he or she actually stayed in Poland for a longer period of time, or whether the center of his or her life is actually in Ukraine,” Schaefernaker said.
In addition, it is proposed to introduce “automatic” extension of stay after 9 months of residence in the country.
– Now we want to adapt the law to the realities. Our labour market accepted a lot of people on the basis of the law that entered into force in March. It provided for successive stages of legalization of these persons in Poland. We believe that now these provisions are sufficient and there is no need to submit additional applications for legal work in Poland, – he says.
It is noted that the amendments to the bill can be submitted to the Sejm no earlier than November 20.
