European Parliament recognizes Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism

On November 23, members of the European Parliament voted for the resolution on the recognition of the Russian Federation as a state sponsor of terrorism.
This document was supported by the majority of deputies – 494, against – 58, 44 abstained.
– The European Parliament strongly condemns the war crimes and acts of terror against the civilian population committed by the Russian Federation and its henchmen in order to achieve destructive political goals in Ukraine and in other countries, recognizes Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism and as a state that uses terrorist means, – the document says.
The resolution also calls on the EU Council to include the Russian PMC Wagner and other militarized groups in the list of individuals and groups involved in terrorist activities.
MEPs also stressed the need to bring to justice states and individuals who support Russia’s armed aggression and strengthen its military capabilities.
In addition, the European Parliament supports international and national processes to investigate crimes committed during the Russian aggressive war against Ukraine and the establishment of a special tribunal.
Accordingly, MEPs believe that it is necessary to join efforts to create a compensation mechanism, which should include the creation of an international register of damage and mechanisms for interaction with the Ukrainian authorities.
Commenting on the decision of the European Parliament, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed that Russia must be isolated at all levels and brought to justice in order to put an end to its long-term policy of terrorism.
I welcome the decision of @Europarl_EN to recognize Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism and a state that uses the means of terrorism. Russia must be isolated at all levels and brought to justice to end its longstanding policy of terrorism in Ukraine and the world.
