Hunger should no longer be used as a weapon: Zelenskyy’s appeal
Food security is one of the key elements of global stability. This is where Ukraine’s leadership role is most evident.
Hunger should never be used as a weapon again, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in a video message on November 26.
– Ukrainians went through genocide. And today we are doing everything possible and impossible to stop Russia’s new genocidal policy. A new one, but similar to the one that killed millions of people in the 20th century. And we don’t just fight back against aggression. Step by step, we are creating a system that will stop aggression, dismantle its consequences and guarantee long-term security for Ukraine, all of Europe and the world, – the Head of state emphasizes.
Thanks to the grain export initiative from three Black Sea ports, Ukraine sent about 12 million tons of food to 40 countries on the world market. Of this amount, more than 2.5 million tons will go to countries that are not just short of food, but in a severe crisis, – the President assures.
Within the framework of the UN Food Program, Ukraine helped countries where people are literally starving or on the verge of starvation. These are, in particular, Ethiopia, Yemen, Somalia and Afghanistan. And this is only the beginning, the president emphasizes.
He officially announced the launch of our new humanitarian initiative – Grain from Ukraine. The government already has agreements with many partners on joint work within the framework of the Grain from Ukraine program, in total, up to 60 ships with food are being prepared.
Today, the power industry continued to restore the system, allowing more opportunities to generate and supply electricity. But it is still not enough to make the supply completely stable, Zelenskyy notes.
– As of this morning, half as many subscribers as last night were disconnected from electricity. In 14 regions and Kyiv, there are still restrictions for more than 100,000 subscribers in each of the regions. If consumption increases in the evening, the number of outages may increase. This once again shows how important it is now to save energy and consume it rationally, – the president draws attention.
Russia turns even this day, which commemorates the victims of the Holodomor, into a day of terror. The occupiers will definitely be responsible for all this, and the Ukrainians will expel them from their homeland, Zelenskyy is convinced.
