Since April, Russia’s BTGs have degraded after unsuccessful offensive operations – attacks on Kyiv, Mariupol, Severodonetsk and Lysychansk – and attempts to rebuild these battalion-tactical groups have failed.

This is stated by analysts of the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) in a report for November 29.

– Probably, since then, the Russian troops have thrown the remnants of the combat forces, replenishment, including mobilized personnel, into poorly trained, equipped and organized special structures with low morale and discipline. Therefore, now the Russians are forced to rely on disposable structures with mobilized personnel, – experts emphasize.

The UK Ministry of Defence also confirms that Russian troops have probably stopped deploying battalion tactical groups in the last three months, as they have shown to be ineffective.

Watching now

According to ISW analysts, on November 29, Russian troops made minor gains in the Bakhmut area, but it is unlikely that they advanced at the pace claimed by Russian sources. At the same time, the Ukrainian Armed Forces continued counter-offensive operations around Svatove and Kreminna.

In addition, the Russians are forced to fight with outdated equipment and lack professional staff, so the second wave of mobilization is probably being prepared.

The full-scale war in Ukraine continues for the 280th day.
