For the transfer of drones to the Russian Federation and the suppression of protests: the EU has approved new sanctions against Iran

The Council of the European Union has approved new sanctions against Iran over its brutal crackdown on protests, its human rights record and its military cooperation with Russia, which includes supplying drones to Moscow.

Sanctions were introduced against the Iranian military and businessmen, as well as four companies associated with the production of drones.

— Today, the Rada added four individuals and four legal entities to the list of those against whom restrictive measures will be applied for undermining or threatening the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine.

These sanctions are based on the role of these persons in the development and supply of unmanned aerial vehicles used by Russia in its war against Ukraine, – the decision states.

The following were sanctioned: Brigadier General Abdullah Mehrabi from the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps, Brigadier General Hamida Vahadi, Brigadier General Ali Reza Balali and Managing Director of Oje Parvaz Mado Nafar (Mado) Youssef Abutalebi.

Sanctions were also introduced against the following companies: Design and Manufacturing of Aircraft Engines (DAMA), Oje Parvaz Mado Nafar Company (Mado), Paravar Pars Company, as well as the organization of the IR Guard Corps “Research and Self-Defense “Jihad”.

The EU Council added 20 individuals and one legal entity to the list of sanctions due to human rights violations in Iran. It is noted that this decision was taken in view of the role of these individuals in the violent reaction to the recent protests in Iran after the death of Mahsa Amini.

The EU’s restrictive measures include asset freezes, EU entry bans and a ban on providing funds or economic resources to those on the list.
