The United States of America is launching the Welcome Corps program, which will allow Americans to financially sponsor refugees fleeing war.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced this, calling the program “the boldest innovation in refugee resettlement in four decades.”
– This initiative will allow Americans to directly support refugees and demonstrate the best of American hospitality and generosity, – he said.

Under the program, groups of at least five people living in the United States will be eligible to sponsor refugees if they raise $2,275 per person, pass a background check and create a refugee support plan.
Sponsor groups will act as traditional resettlement agencies for at least 90 days after the refugee’s arrival.
They will help new arrivals get housing and other basic needs, including food, health care, education and government benefits to which they are entitled.
The US State Department hopes to attract 10,000 private sponsors to resettle at least 5,000 refugees during the first year of Welcome Corps.
