Germany announces the transfer of Leopard tanks to Ukraine and allows re-export to other countries

Germany has approved the transfer of Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine. This was announced on January 25 following a decision by the German government.
We are talking about one company of Leopard 2 tanks (14 units – Ed.) from the Bundeswehr’s own stocks.
Training of the Ukrainian military will begin soon. Berlin will also provide logistics and ammunition.
In addition, Germany has given the green light to other countries to supply modern vehicles to the Ukrainian military.
This was stated by government spokesman Steffen Hebestreit, who announced the decision of Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
– Germany will provide Ukraine with 14 Leopard 2 main battle tanks. In addition, the German government has authorized other states to supply these tanks to Ukraine,” he said.
According to Hebestreit, this step is being taken in coordination with international partners. He added that his goal is to “quickly form two tank battalions with Leopard 2 tanks for Ukraine.”
The day before, ABC News reported, citing a senior Ukrainian official, that 12 countries had agreed to supply Ukraine with about 100 Leopard 2 tanks if the German government made a positive decision.
Also on January 24, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said that Ukraine’s European partners have already begun work on the transfer of F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine.
