Denmark, together with Germany and the Netherlands, plan to transfer at least 100 Leopard 1 tanks to Ukraine, which they will purchase from representatives of German industry.

This was announced by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Denmark, Lars Lücke Rasmussen. He noted that it is necessary to help Ukrainians to protect their country.

– Just told our friend and Ukrainian ally Dmytro Kuleba that Denmark will be creating the Leopard 1 initiative with Germany and the Netherlands. Expect an initial donation of at least 100 tanks. We must do everything in our power to help Ukrainians protect their own country, – the message says.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Dmytro Kuleba thanked Denmark, Germany and the Netherlands for their steadfast support. In his opinion, strengthening Ukraine is the best investment in common European security.

In her turn, the Minister of Defense of the Netherlands, Kasia Ollongren, clarified that her country, as well as Denmark and Germany, will purchase 100 Leopard-1A5 battle tanks for Ukraine “directly from the German industry,” writes Reuters.

– These are proven tanks, and since they are being adjusted and prepared for combat operations, they will certainly be useful for Ukrainians, – she said.

In an interview with the Dutch TV channel NOS, she explained that these tanks are a slightly older model, but “definitely still usable” during hostilities in Ukraine.

In addition, Kasia Ollongren released a joint statement from the Netherlands, Germany and Denmark on her Twitter page, which says that the tanks will be delivered along with the necessary logistical support and training.

– Denmark, Germany and the Netherlands are providing modernized tanks from industrial warehouses, the first will be provided in a few months… The initiative includes training on the Leopard-1A5, as well as the provision of spare parts and ammunition, – the statement said.

It is noted that Belgium has expressed interest in the initiative, but the offer is open to any interested countries.
