Ukraine can be included in the European roaming zone: the proposal must be considered by the Council of the EU
The European Commission initiated the inclusion of Ukraine in the European free telephone roaming zone.
According to the European Commission, this will be the first case of the extension of the EU internal market regime to Ukraine.
– Ukraine’s inclusion in the EU free roaming zone is one of the key actions of the revised Priority Action Plan. This plan is a road map for the full implementation of the free trade zone between the EU and Ukraine, as well as further integration, – the message says.
The European Commission notes that Ukrainians will no longer have to pay any additional fees for using their mobile phones during trips to the EU. At the same time, tourists from the EU will enjoy the same rights when visiting Ukraine.
This proposal will be considered by the EU Council. In accordance with the Council’s agreement, the EU-Ukraine Trade Committee will have to adopt a joint decision on providing a mutual regime of the internal market for roaming.
Currently, EU and Ukrainian telecommunications operators offer affordable or free calls on a voluntary basis. Thanks to this agreement, about 4 million Ukrainian refugees in the EU have an accessible connection.
