The head of the President’s Office, Andriy Yermak, said that the Dutch government finally decided to locate the International Register of Damages in The Hague.
The official wrote about this on his Telegram channel on Friday, February 17.
– This is the first component of the compensation mechanism that will allow Russia to pay for everything. The criminal will be punished and pay for each crime. We are grateful for this important decision – we are working, – noted Andriy Yermak.
Minister Denys Malyuska also commented on the initiative on the website of the Ministry of Justice, who said that he welcomes such a decision.
– The destruction and damage caused by Russia to our citizens, businesses and the state is enormous. The aggressor country is obliged by international law to compensate them. For this, the damages must be carefully documented, evaluated and prepared for further consideration, – Malyuska said.
His deputy Iryna Mudra added that the creation of this register is a fundamental step for the future of the Compensation Mechanism.
It will be recalled that the creation of the Register of Damages was recommended in the Resolution of the UN General Assembly dated November 14, 2022.
It should be the first component of a comprehensive reparations mechanism, which should include the creation of a compensation commission that will consider individual claims for compensation by Russia for damages from citizens, companies and the state.
A compensation fund should also be created, which will accumulate funds to pay the decisions of the commission, in particular at the expense of confiscated Russian assets.
