On the anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida announced new sanctions against Russia.
He noted that he would soon present his new ideas for sanctions, but did not provide any details.
Kishida reminded that Moscow refuses to change its “tough stance” in the war with Ukraine.
– The international community must unite, demonstrate solidarity and impose tough sanctions against Russia, the prime minister said.
In May, Kishida will host the G7 summit in Hiroshima. He said he is considering a trip to Ukraine as a sign of solidarity.
Last month, Japan tightened sanctions against Russia, including a ban on certain exports and the freezing of assets of Russian officials and organizations.
However, Japanese firms have retained stakes in Russian oil and gas projects, which are considered critical to Japan’s energy supply.
