U.S. intelligence does not rule out that a “pro-Ukrainian group” attacked the Nord Stream gas pipeline.

The New York Times reports this with reference to sources. However, U.S. officials have stressed that they have no evidence that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy or his entourage were in any way involved in the explosions on the pipelines, or that the alleged saboteurs were acting on the instructions of Ukrainian authorities.

According to U.S. officials, new intelligence indicates that the alleged perpetrators are opponents of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.

However, they did not disclose their identities or who may have directed or financed the operation. U.S. officials also refused to say how the intelligence was obtained.

According to the NYT, initially, US and European speculation focused on possible Russian culpability, but the US found no evidence of Russian involvement in the attack on the gas pipelines.

U.S. officials said the saboteurs were most likely citizens of “Ukraine or Russia, or some combination of both.” U.S. officials also said that no Americans or Britons were involved in the bombings.
