The United States imposed sanctions on Belarusian state-owned enterprises and local “elites.” The plane of Belarusian dictator Alexander Lukashenko was also subject to restrictions.

This was reported by the US Treasury Department.

In total, the Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) has added three organizations and nine individuals from Belarus to the list.

Belarusian machine-building enterprises were sanctioned: Belarusian Automobile Plant (BelAZ) and Minsk Automobile Plant (MAZ). Earlier, the EU and Canada imposed sanctions on these companies.

The sanctions list was expanded to include BelAZ director Sergei Nikiforovich and MAZ head Valery Ivankovich.

The report states that BelAZ is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of mining dump trucks and heavy trucks.

At the same time, MAZ is “one of the largest automakers in Belarus and a significant source of income for the Lukashenko regime.” The company produces trucks, buses, trolleybuses, and trailers.

In addition, the Central Election Commission of Belarus and seven of its members were sanctioned.

The U.S. Treasury Department also designated a Boeing 737 aircraft owned by the Belarusian government and used by dictator Alexander Lukashenko as blocked property.

– Lukashenko has exclusive access to the plane and other luxury aircraft and uses them for personal travel. In addition, Lukashenko has used the plane with his family and other members of his entourage for international travel,” the US ministry said.

The United States imposed sanctions in response to the ongoing brutal repression in Belarus and the country’s complicity in Russia’s war against Ukraine.

– Lukashenko’s authoritarian regime relies on state-owned enterprises and key officials to generate substantial revenues that allow it to carry out repressive actions against the Belarusian people. “We remain committed to punishing the Lukashenko regime for suppressing democracy and supporting the war of Putin’s choosing,” said U.S. Under Secretary of the Treasury Brian Nelson.

The sanctions stipulate that all property of sanctioned companies and individuals located in the United States will be blocked. The activities of any organizations that are directly or indirectly owned by one or more of the sanctioned persons by 50% or more are also blocked.

Financial institutions and persons conducting transactions with companies included in the sanctions list may be subject to US sanctions.
