The European Union will impose sanctions in response to deploying Russian tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus.

This was stated by the head of the European diplomacy, Josep Borrell.

– The deployment of Russian nuclear weapons in Belarus would mean an irresponsible escalation and a threat to European security. Belarus can still stop this; it is its choice, – he wrote on Twitter.

Borrell emphasized that the EU is ready to respond with further sanctions.

On March 25, Putin announced that he plans to deploy nuclear weapons in Belarus, allegedly at Lukashenko’s request. According to him, the construction of a storage facility for tactical nuclear weapons will be completed in Belarus by July 1.

In response to Putin’s statement, Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry demands that an extraordinary meeting of the UN Security Council be convened immediately.
