US orders $4.8 billion worth of high-precision missiles for HIMARS air defense systems

The US government has ordered GMLRS precision-guided missiles for the HIMARS multiple launch rocket system for a total of about $4.8 billion. The Pentagon signed a corresponding agreement with Lockheed Martin.

According to Defense News, the United States plans to expand missile production from 6,000 to 14,000 units annually.

– “The army has signed a $4.8 billion deal with Lockheed Martin to produce guided multiple launch rocket systems, which the United States has sent in large quantities to Ukraine,” the report says.

Foreign publications note that the production of the number of GMLRS missiles specified in the agreement is scheduled to be completed by October 30, 2026.

The United States is providing Ukraine with GMLRS missiles along with launchers of the HIMARS Highly Mobile Artillery Missile System to help defend against large-scale Russian attacks.
