The Estonian parliament has adopted a statement in support of Ukraine’s accession to NATO and stressed the need to take concrete and unambiguous steps in this direction at the next NATO summit.

This was reported on the official website of the Riigikogu (legislative body) of Estonia.

The document was approved by 92 out of 101 members of the Riigikogu. The day before, 95 Estonian parliamentarians submitted a statement.

In the document, Estonia confirms that it considers it absolutely necessary to formulate concrete and unambiguous steps necessary for Ukraine’s early integration into NATO at the NATO Summit in Vilnius on 11-12 July, and subsequently to extend an invitation to join the Alliance.

According to the statement, the Riigikogu is based on the goal set by NATO member states at the Bucharest Summit in 2008 to have Ukraine join the Alliance, and also takes into account the official application for membership.

Estonia has recognised that the victory over Russia and Ukraine’s subsequent accession to NATO is the only way to ensure a rules-based world order, lasting peace and security for European democracies.
