The EU will not recognize the Russian presidential election in the occupied part of Ukraine

The European Union will not recognize the results of the Russian presidential election, which the occupiers are going to hold in 2024 on the territory of Ukraine temporarily under their control.
This was stated by EU spokesperson Peter Stano in Brussels.
He noted that the elections themselves, organized by the Kremlin, raise doubts about their democracy and transparency.
– “There is still time to see if there are any surprises and if free, democratic and transparent elections will be held there. And then we will express our position. But I would like to remind you that any attempts to organize such elections in the occupied territories of Ukraine will not be recognized as legal,” Stano said.
He added that the West does not have much hope for the elections, which will be held in a country with tight authoritarian control and draconian methods against the opposition.
