Loan aid to Ukraine: the US State Department commented on the congressmen’s proposals

The US State Department does not consider the proposals of some legislators to provide non-military loan aid to Ukraine to be appropriate.

State Department spokesman Matthew Miller stated this at a briefing .

– We do not think that burdening Ukraine with billions of foreign debt when it is trying to revive its economy – and this, after all, is the best way for it to stand on its own two feet and protect itself without the help of other countries – is the right step at this time, – he said .

Earlier, the mass media reported that the speaker of the House of Representatives, Mike Johnson, and the heads of the key committees of the House of Representatives from the Republicans are working on the development of their own aid package for Ukraine.

Among the proposals is consideration of part of the non-military aid as a type of credit.

House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Mike McCaul and Senator Lindsey Graham noted that Russian assets seized by the US government under sanctions could also be used as collateral for loans.

It has been reported that the plan may also have a “generous repayment system” to help Ukraine.
