At night in Primorye (RF) there was a fire on the multi-purpose supply vessel Catherine the Great. The Russians considered the ship unique.
The Far Eastern Transport Prosecutor’s Office of the Russian Federation reported on the fire.
It is noted that the fire occurred at the Dalzavod Ship Repair Center in Vladivostok, the fire has already been extinguished.
According to preliminary data, as a result of the incident, one person died, and three others were hospitalized.
According to the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations, the technological premises with an area of about 50 m² were damaged.
Russian law enforcement officers are conducting investigations to establish the circumstances of the incident.
What is known about the Russian ship Catherine the Great
The first multipurpose ice-enhanced Icebreaker 7-class supply vessel, Catherine the Great, was launched in December 2020 in the presence of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.
The icebreaker was built at the Zirka shipbuilding complex and was called the main ship in a series of four ships of the Russian company Rosneft.
Ships of the Catherine the Great type are designed for an unlimited navigation area, in particular in difficult climatic conditions.
They are used to perform various operations, in particular for the transportation of cargo to marine facilities, ice-breaking operations, control of the ice situation, rescue, escort, fire fighting, towing of large objects, transportation of containers on the main deck.
