F-16s from Belgium will arrive in Ukraine already this year
Belgium will deliver the first batch of American F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine already in 2024.
This was reported by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in his X (formerly Twitter).
The head of state held a telephone conversation with Belgian Prime Minister Alexander de Croo, enlisting diplomatic and military support.
— They discussed defense and political cooperation. We appreciate the decision of the Belgian government to begin the transfer of F-16 aircraft to Ukraine already this year, – Zelenskyy said.
The politicians also discussed Belgium’s participation in the peace summit, which will be held in Switzerland on June 15-16.
Brussels has confirmed its participation and continues to firmly adhere to the positions of the Ukrainian Peace Formula.
— He also noted the important role of the Belgian presidency in the EU in the context of our integration. We expect the actual start of accession negotiations already in June, – summed up the Ukrainian guarantor.
F-16 for Ukraine from Belgium
Back in April, Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo and Belgian Defense Minister Ludivin Dedonder announced their readiness to hand over the F-16 to the Ukrainian army by the end of this year .
They emphasized that these deliveries will not harm the defense capability of Belgium itself.
