Ukraine will receive the first €1.4 billion from the frozen assets of the Russian Federation at the beginning of August – Borrell
Already at the beginning of August of this year, the European Union will direct the first tranche of profits from the frozen assets of Russia to the purchase of weapons for Ukraine.
This was announced by the High Representative of the EU for foreign policy and security policy Josep Borrell at a press conference following the meeting of the ministers of foreign affairs of the EU countries in Brussels.

Borrell noted that during the meeting he informed the ministers about the progress regarding the first tranche of 1.4 billion euros.
– It (the tranche, – Ed.) is expected to be transferred in early August – next week, – said the representative of the EU.
According to him, the EU plans to finance the purchase of priority military equipment for Ukraine with these funds. We are talking about anti-aircraft defense, artillery shells, as well as purchases for the Ukrainian defense industry.
– So, we plan to provide military support not only to Ukraine, but also from Ukraine itself, which is certainly the most logical and most effective thing we can do, – Borrell explained.
We will remind you that in June of this year, the Council of the EU agreed to provide Ukraine with €1.4 billion from the proceeds of frozen Russian assets.
This was confirmed by Josep Borrell at a press conference in Luxembourg. He also said that the EU has found a way around Hungary’s constant attempts to block the decision.
