The operation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Kursk region demonstrated the creativity and combat prowess of Ukrainians, and the long-term goals of this operation are the subject of discussions between the United States and Ukraine.
This was stated by the spokesman of the US Ministry of Defense, Patrick Ryder, during the briefing.
The US is discussing with Ukraine the scope of operations in the Kursk region
The Pentagon spokesman explained that the US is conducting these conversations to learn more about Ukraine’s goals.
He also recalled President Zelenskyi’s words that the operation in the Kursk region is the creation of a buffer zone.
– We continue discussions with Ukrainians about what they are focused on. You heard how President Zelenskyу said that it was to create a buffer zone, so we are having these conversations to learn more about their purpose, – Ryder said.
He also added that the US is focused on Ukraine being a free and sovereign state capable of deterring Russian aggression in the future.
– Regarding the operation in Kursk, as I already mentioned, they clearly forced the Russians to fight back. It certainly showed the creativity and fighting prowess of Ukrainians. But when it comes to what their long-term goals are there, we’re still discussing that with them, – said a spokesman for the US Department of Defense.
The Pentagon commented on the possibility of using ATACMS on the territory of the Russian Federation
In addition, Patrick Ryder commented on the possibility of using ATACMS long-range missiles on the territory of Russia.
He emphasized that the US policy remains unchanged regarding the use of strike forces and long-range means of delivering deep strikes.
– As we have already said, the conduct of defense operations across the border is allowed. And I will stop there, – said the spokesman of the Pentagon.
We will remind that earlier the US Defense Minister Lloyd Austin discussed with the Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov the operation of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation in the Kursk region of the Russian Federation.
After this conversation, the Pentagon announced a better understanding of the Kursk operation.
