At an extraordinary session on April 1, which took place online, the Mariupol City Council suspended the powers of deputies of two pro-Russian forces – the OPZZH and the Shariy Party – for the period of martial law.
Local deputies also condemned the war crimes of the Russian invaders against the people of Mariupol, rejecting the possibility of any cooperation with the occupiers and collaborators.
They called on the international community to join forces to unblock humanitarian aid to Mariupol and fully evacuate the population.
In addition, the City Council called on the world to recognize the actions of the Russian Federation in Mariupol as genocide of the Ukrainian people, and Russian dictator Putin as a war criminal.
The City Council has set up special commissions to calculate the damage caused to Mariupol and to collect information on local residents deported to Russia.
We strongly condemn the mass deportation of Mariupol residents to Russia and the complete blocking of international humanitarian aid and the efforts of central and local authorities to evacuate civilians, – is said in a statement of the City Council.
According to the Minister for the Temporarily Occupied Territories Iryna Vereshchuk, there are now about 100,000 people in Mariupol, about 75,000 people have been rescued, and another 45,000 Ukrainians have been forcibly deported by Russians to the DNR and Russia.
