Pentagon: Ukraine received its first Mi-17 helicopter from the US

On Tuesday, May 10th, Ukraine received the delivery of the first helicopter out of 11 that should be supplied by the USA. The Pentagon informed on the matter.

According to Washington Post’s source, the Mi-17 transport helicopters were designated for Afghanistan military campaign, however, that was before the fall of the US-supported government. This type of aircraft was mostly used to transport military staff. But there is also a possibility to install a rocket launcher and a muzzle-loader to utilize a helicopter in the campaign of air support.

The USA will also provide Ukraine with the complexes that consist of a laser-aiming unit, which is going to make rocket launches more accurate, the Pentagon stated.

This diversity will be beneficial in the battle for Donbas, where Russia has concentrated its forces trying to capture more territories.

The helicopters could be helpful for transporting troops on the battle scene as well as for the medical evacuation through a big region.
