The Ukrainian authorities began receiving offers to “evacuate” a year before a full-scale war with Russia.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said this in an interview with the Dutch publication Nieuwsuur on May 28.
– Our country was getting ready. We knew that this (invasion – Ed.) could happen at any moment. The way we were offered to ring the bells, dig trenches, get people out of the state, and it had to be done a year before the invasion,” said the leader of Ukraine.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy also named why he did not accept such proposals from international partners.
– I believe that this was not the right way because it was unnecessary to sow panic in our society, because all this would hit the financial situation, the budget, and the economy,” the president explained.
At the same time, Volodymyr Zelenskyy assured that Ukrainian servicemen were preparing for a full-scale invasion of Russia.
– The army was ready, and it showed it,” the president said.
