The police initiated more than 42,000 criminal proceedings regarding war crimes committed by the occupiers, and identified about 168,000 invaders.
Among the directions in which the investigators work are crimes committed in the territory temporarily not under the control of Ukraine, shelling of the civilian population and infrastructure, as well as the recording of crimes in the de-occupied territories. This was announced by the Deputy Head of the National Police of Ukraine Maksym Tsutskiridze on November 8 during the visit of the delegation led by the US Ambassador to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield to the forensic center.
According to Linda Thomas-Greenfield, documenting war crimes is a process in which Ukrainians collect and record evidence of Russian atrocities on the battlefield, and those who committed these atrocities in the war must be held accountable.
– This documentation is an extraordinary, thorough and necessary work that Ukrainian investigators perform and will later use in Ukrainian and international courts. Those who committed these crimes will be held accountable, – the US Ambassador to the UN said.
