Since February 7, 2023, Russian troops have probably made some tactical gains in two key sectors – near Bakhmut and Vuhledar (Donetsk region).
This was reported by the UK Ministry of Defense, citing British intelligence.
It is noted that on the northern outskirts of Bakhmut, Wagner PMC mercenaries have probably moved 2-3 km further west, controlling the countryside near the main M-03 highway leading to the city.
– “Russian troops are increasingly dominating the northern approaches to Bakhmut,” the statement said.
According to intelligence, the occupiers advanced further south in the area of the western outskirts of Vuhledar, where they again launched offensive operations at the end of January this year.
The intelligence service clarified that Russian troops suffer huge losses during their offensive attempts.
– However, Russian units probably suffered particularly heavy losses near Vuhledar, as inexperienced units were involved, the report said.
The intelligence service clarified that Russian troops there probably fled and left at least 30 mostly undamaged armored vehicles after the failed assault.
According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Russian troops are now throwing their main forces to the offensive at the Kupyansk, Lyman, Bakhmut, Avdiivka and Novopavlivka directions.
According to military expert Oleh Zhdanov, the most critical areas are Kreminna and Svatove in Luhansk region, as well as Bakhmut.
