Military expert Oleh Zhdanov explained why Russians are launching balloons into the airspace over Ukraine.
– The balloons are not intended to detect any positions. Balloons are designed to “reveal” air defense systems. The A-50 aircraft flies along the border of Ukraine, for example, in Belarusian airspace, and looks at where our radar stations are activated,” he explained.
“This is how the Russians see where the Ukrainian eyes and ears are located – air defense and missile defense systems, and they make a map of them so that they can hit these points with missiles.
– But I have already said that they are constantly changing their positions. So today they were detected in these places, and tomorrow they deployed to other places. And when there is a massive missile strike, the missiles can come at empty places. Therefore, the probes that are being sent to us are intended only to reveal our country’s air defense,” the expert explained.
He also explained how the Russians launch fake missiles and why air defense cannot distinguish them from the real ones.
Zhdanov clarified that only intercontinental ballistic missiles have false targets, but not tactical missiles.
– “There may be missiles with a main weight model – training and combat missiles. We detected this in the summer. The Tochka-U came from the GVM, and the Iskanders were ballistic missiles. In general, it is impossible to distinguish a fake missile from a combat missile. Because they have exactly the same parameters and ballistic characteristics,” said the military expert, adding that they fly and reflect on the radar in exactly the same way.
