Ukraine needs 20 batteries of Patriot air defense systems to protect against Russian missiles.
This was stated by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in an interview with The Associated Press. And even this may not be enough, “because no country in the world has been attacked by so many ballistic missiles.”
– “We have great solutions for Patriot, but we don’t really have it,” Zelenskyy said, referring to the American-made air defense system.
Since January, Ukrainian soldiers have been trained in the United States on how to use the Patriot system, but it has not yet been deployed in Ukraine.
The head of state also added that a European country sent Ukraine another air defense system, but it did not work, so “we had to change it again and again.” However, he did not name the country.
The President also reminded of Ukraine’s need for fighter jets. He stated that “we still have nothing when it comes to modern military aircraft.”
– Poland and Slovakia have decided to give Ukraine Soviet-era fighter jets, but no Western country has yet agreed to provide modern combat aircraft because of fears that this could escalate the conflict and draw them deeper into it,” AR writes.
