Russian regular troops and mercenaries lost a lot of equipment during the attempt to take Bakhmut, but still have reserves for recovery.
This was stated on the air of the national telethon of the United News by the spokesman for the Eastern Group of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Serhiy Cherevaty.
He reminded that Bakhmut remains the main target of the enemy and the place of concentration of all Russian attack efforts.
– “Over the past 24 hours, they (the enemy – Ed.) attacked our positions in this area 19 times. It fired 229 times with various systems and calibers of cannon and rocket artillery, and carried out two air raids. In return, we killed 133 occupants while repelling these attacks, 176 were wounded. We also destroyed a Pantsyr surface-to-air missile system, three electronic warfare stations, two enemy self-propelled artillery systems, two howitzers, an infantry field vehicle and eight BC field stores,” he said.
Serhiy Cherevaty added that despite the occupiers’ heavy losses, Russia still has the resources to replenish its forces.
According to him, Russian troops are using outdated equipment such as BMP-1, BTR-60, T-62 tanks.
– “Our year of fighting and destroying enemy equipment affects the combat potential. However, in quantitative terms, although somewhat outdated, he still has equipment,” he said.
The spokesperson for the Eastern Group of the Ukrainian Armed Forces added that the enemy is trying to advance to capture Bakhmut by May 9, but the city has been held by Ukrainian troops for 9 months.
– It is just a goal for them to take Bakhmut. It is not known why, it is not known how to further develop this success. They just want to take it to avoid looking like a disgrace to the whole world,” Cherevaty said.
Separately, Serhiy Cherevaty said that in the Liman and Kupyansk sectors, it is not Wagner’s PMCs that are involved in the fighting, but the regular army of the Russian Federation, so they are acting more cautiously, focusing on air raids and artillery shelling.
