Putin’s death will not stop the war. Russia wanted to destroy Ukraine long before him – Yusov

Vladimir Putin is not the first Russian dictator who wants to destroy Ukraine, so his death is unlikely to put an end to this war.

This opinion was expressed by Andriy Yusov, a representative of the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine, in an interview with RBC-Ukraine.

– “Existentially, Russia has wanted to destroy Ukraine for a long time, long before Putin existed. This was the case under Peter the Great, Stalin, and other Russian dictators of different periods. It would be wrong to expect that the removal or death of one person will solve all our problems,” the intelligence officer believes.

At the same time, he said, it could create a certain “window of opportunity” for both Ukraine and Russia to reorganize, reform and abandon the legacy of war crimes.

– “How this window of opportunity will be used by us and by Russia itself is an open question,” Yusov summarized.

And rumors about Putin’s death are primarily aimed at the domestic Russian audience with certain goals, he added.
