In 2024, Ukraine will move to strategic defense along the entire front line – General of the Armed Forces of Ukraine

In 2024, the Ukrainian Defense Forces will move to strategic defense along the entire front.
This was stated by retired Lieutenant General, former Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Ihor Romanenko during a roundtable discussion on the Military Campaign of the Russian-Ukrainian War 2023: Lessons for Ukraine and Conclusions for the Next Year.
He noted that Ukraine and Russia still have the resources to continue the war, but the fate of the fighting remains uncertain, as it was last year.
– Globally, the counteroffensive, at least for now, has not brought about any fundamental changes. Obviously, the West was not ready for this, and this affects its assistance,” said the lieutenant general.
According to Romanenko, the lack of a plan of action on the part of the Ukrainian side in case none of the predicted scenarios materializes and the prospects for political negotiations remain unrealistic has led to the fact that the allies have mostly not approved new significant programs for the supply of heavy weapons to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
– “I see the prospects for the end of this year and next year as being that we will have to move to strategic defense along the entire front, accumulate forces and means and, if available, formulate plans for further actions for 2024,” he added.
The war in Ukraine

The head of the Joint Press Center of the Operational Command South, Natalia Gumenyuk, said that Ukrainian troops are pushing Russian forces back to a distance of three to eight kilometers from the eastern bank of the Dnipro River in Kherson region.
