Occupants put ZNPP Unit 5 into cold shutdown due to reagent leakage – International Atomic Energy Agency

The Russian occupation administration is putting Unit 5 of Zaporizhzhia NPP into a cold shutdown. A few days ago, there was a leak of reagents from the first reactor circuit to the second.
This was reported by the press service of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
– Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) is transferring its reactor unit No. 5 from a hot shutdown to a cold shutdown and intends to determine the cause of the boron detection in the cooling circuit, leaving one of the plant’s six reactors in a hot shutdown to produce steam and heat, the statement said.
It is noted that the 4th power unit will operate in hot shutdown mode. In addition, the occupiers assured the IAEA that they do not plan to transfer Unit 2 to a hot shutdown to replace Unit 5.
– “After the cold shutdown, ZNPP will conduct tests to determine why low levels of boron were detected in the secondary cooling circuit of one of the power unit’s steam generators,” the statement said.
“The occupation administration of ZNPP informed the IAEA experts who are at the plant that the concentration of boron in the relevant cooling circuit remains below the limits allowed by its technical characteristics.
In addition, no radioactivity was found in the secondary cooling circuit. To maintain nuclear safety, boron water is used in the primary coolant.
As a reminder, on November 16, it became known that an accident occurred at the fifth power unit of Zaporizhzhya NPP due to the criminal actions of the Russian occupiers.
