Deoccupying Crimea will be easier than Donbas – Zelenskyy
Deoccupying the temporarily occupied Crimea will probably be easier than Donbas. It is not only about the liberation of territories, but also the mental return of people to Ukraine.
The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, stated this during a conversation with Mykolaiv students.
He noted that it may happen that we will return the territories earlier than these people.
– For example, if we take Donbas, people live there for 10 years, live in a different space, and this is a long process. It can be different. I believe that it is more difficult with Donbas. My partners once told me: it will be almost impossible for you to return Crimea and very difficult to return Donbas. And in my opinion, if we are talking about the people, all the same, the territories will be returned with the people, if the people do not want – it will be very difficult, – said the head of state.
What is the difficulty of returning Donbass
The President emphasized that it will be more difficult mentally to return the residents of the occupied Donbas, because the region has been fighting for 10 years, and there was a contact line. In addition, there is a lot of separatism, some people went through the war.
– The relationship is clear. And even now, when Russia is at war against us, the toughest separatists stand. The Russians are running, and these are standing. This is also saying something. And there were no hostilities in Crimea, so I believe that Crimea is very much waiting for its return, and Donbas is also waiting, but it will be very difficult, because a large part of this territory was occupied and militarized as much as possible… The most important thing for us is to save us. What we have, everything else will definitely return, – added Zelenskyy.
