Mobile fire teams are very effective against Shahed-type attack drones. They are now shooting down most of these air targets.
This was stated by Yuriy Ihnat, a spokesman for the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, on the air of the United News telethon.
– “This is good because it allows us to stockpile anti-aircraft guided missiles, which we need to repel cruise missiles, as well as to prevent enemy planes and helicopters from appearing in our airspace,” he explained.
According to him, since September 2022, the Russian Federation has launched 3,700 Shahed attack drones on the territory of Ukraine, of which 2,900 were destroyed.
– “Yes, there is a difference of 800, but they have never shot down so many before. They were shooting from whatever was at hand, from assault rifles and pistols. And now we have the result we came to. That’s why mobile fire groups are gaining a new meaning. But we are still waiting for more modern weapons systems that can shoot down targets automatically,” Ihnat summarized.
According to the Air Force, on the night of December 21, Russia launched 35 Shahed-136/131 attack drones at Ukraine, 34 of which were destroyed by air defense.
