POWs shot dead in Zaporizhzhia were fighters of the 82nd Brigade – General Staff

The Ukrainian prisoners of war, whose video of being shot by the Russian occupiers was posted online, were members of the 82nd separate air assault brigade.
This was reported by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on December 28.
– “This footage is yet another proof of a war crime by the Russian Federation Armed Forces,” the statement said.
The General Staff reported that the three Ukrainian prisoners of war are servicemen of the 82nd separate airborne assault brigade of the Airborne Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, who were discharged from service as a result of being captured after receiving injuries and contusions of varying severity.
The agency added that the dead soldiers were evacuated from the battlefield.
To recap, the day before, the Prosecutor General’s Office said that the dead soldiers had been identified. They are being verified and will be made public later.
Before that, on December 27, law enforcement officers reported on an investigation into the shooting of Ukrainian prisoners of war by the occupiers in Zaporizhzhia region. The investigation indicated that in December 2023, during a military clash with the Armed Forces of Ukraine near the village of Robotyne in Zaporizhzhia, the Russians captured three Ukrainian soldiers and shot them dead an hour later. The video of the execution was later posted online.
The execution of surrendered combatants is a direct violation of the Geneva Convention relative to the Treatment of Prisoners of War.
