It is better to leave a position than to lose personnel: Syrskyi on priorities in combat

The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, said that the main value for Ukraine is the lives of its soldiers and officers in combat units.
He said this in an interview with the German news service ZDF.
The Ukrainian commander noted that he could not afford to lead the army the way Russian commanders do.
– They use the practice of meat assaults. But I would rather lose some positions than allow the loss of all personnel,” explained Syrskyi.
He added that for Russia, the value of its soldiers is practically zero, which the Defense Forces see in combat every day.
Appointment of Syrsky as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces
On February 8, Colonel General Oleksandr Syrskyi was appointed Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Syrskyi has been known since 2014, when he was appointed First Deputy Chief of the Main Command Center of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. There, he was responsible, among other things, for cooperation with NATO.
Since 2019, he has been the commander of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and in 2020, Syrskyi was promoted to the rank of colonel general.
During the full-scale war with Russia, he effectively commanded operations on the Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Donetsk directions.
Former U.S. Army Europe Commander Ben Hodges praised this appointment to the highest military leadership position in Ukraine and is convinced that Syrsky as commander-in-chief is sad news for the Russians.
To recap, Syrskyi compared Russia’s losses in the war against Ukraine. According to him, they are seven or even eight times higher than those suffered by our troops.
