President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the decision of the military command to withdraw from Avdiivka in Donetsk region was motivated by the desire to save our people.

He said this during the Munich Security Conference on Saturday, February 17.

– “To save the maximum number of Ukrainians, to save our people. This is the right decision to avoid being surrounded. Russia has not captured anything. They completely destroy houses and then enter the territory,” he said.

Ratio of losses near Avdiivka

Answering a question about the ratio of losses of the Russian occupation army and the Armed Forces in Avdiivka, Zelenskyy stressed that he could not talk about the losses of the Ukrainian Defense Forces. But he added that it was “one to seven” in Avdiivka.

– “I cannot tell you our losses. But in Avdiivka, I can tell you that it was 1 to 7. There are seven Russians for every Ukrainian,” the head of state said.

As a reminder, on February 17, Ukrainian Armed Forces Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi said that Ukrainian units were withdrawing from Avdiivka due to the situation around the city and in order to save the lives and health of the military.
