There are currently three Russian Navy submarines based in the Black Sea that are missile-carrying submarines, and the fourth submarine, the Rostov-on-Don, was hit in a dry dock in September 2023.
Dmytro Pletenchuk, a spokesman for the Ukrainian Navy, said this on the air of the United News telethon.
Submarines of the Russian Black Sea Fleet – how many are left
– There were supposed to be six cruise missile carriers – the Warsaw Vanguard project and the Alrosa diesel-electric submarine. This is a preliminary project, Varshavyanka is basically a modified Alrosa. The Russians have repeatedly stated that Alrosa has also been modified to launch Kalibr, but this information has not been confirmed,” he explained.
However, according to him, of these six units, which were designed to launch cruise missiles, two remained in the Mediterranean Sea at the beginning of the full-scale invasion, and they are now undergoing repairs in the north.
– And these four remained in the water, and one of them is Rostov-on-Don, which was hit in a dry dock. We believe that it cannot be restored or this process will take a very long time,” summarized Pletenchuk.
According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, since February 24, 2022, the Defense Forces have sunk 25 Russian ships and boats, as well as one submarine.
