Execution of Ukrainian prisoners of war: The Prosecutor General’s Office is preparing suspicions for the occupiers
In the near future, the Russian occupiers who shot the Ukrainian Armed Forces servicemen who were captured by them will be suspected and prosecuted in accordance with the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
This was stated by Yuriy Bilousov, Head of the Department of the Prosecutor General’s Office for Combating Crimes Committed in the Context of Armed Conflict.
He noted that law enforcement officers managed to identify the war criminals and obtain relevant testimonies from other Russian soldiers.
– We are now collecting materials from several recent cases. I think suspicions will be announced in the near future. We share information with international partners, with the International Criminal Court. We are trying to involve as many resources and states as possible to show what is happening,” emphasized Bilousov.
Execution of prisoners of war is the will of Russia’s top military leadership
The representative of the Prosecutor General’s Office added that the number of executions of captured Ukrainian defenders, unfortunately, is not limited to isolated cases.
Given the systematic nature and expanding geography of criminal incidents, the only conclusion is that war crimes are ordered by Russian unit commanders.
– If it were an isolated incident, it would be the actions of a particular soldier. But it is obvious that the military command not only does not prevent such practices, but, apparently, supports them as much as possible and, most likely, gives direct orders for such actions,” Bilousov summarized.
Execution of Ukrainian prisoners
On the morning of February 18, 2024, one of the Telegram channels published a message about the execution of six prisoners from a mechanized brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine at a position in Avdiivka. The defenders were seriously injured, unable to move on their own, and were waiting for evacuation.
Also, in December 2023, near Robotyne, during a firefight with the Ukrainian military, the occupiers took three of our defenders prisoner. An hour later, they were shot dead.
Later it became known that the execution of Ukrainian prisoners of war near Robotyn was carried out by the 76th Airborne Division of the Russian Federation, which is known for its crimes on the territory of Ukraine, in particular in Kyiv region.
