The Russian Federation does not abandon the goal of capturing Zmiiny, but it is already unrealistic – Budanov
Russian troops still want to return the island under their control.
This was stated by the head of the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine Kyrylo Budanov in the documentary project of the Main Directorate of Intelligence. Battle for the sea.
– The Russians do not abandon the goal of returning this island. Rocket and bomb attacks are regularly carried out. Several times we received information, and we saw its confirmation, about the preparation [by the Russians] of a similar operation, as we conducted in our time, – he said.
At the same time, according to Budanov, the occupying forces could not do this because they saw that “it is already impossible to knock out the Ukrainian garrison from the island.”
The head of the Main Directorate of Intelligence added that after the liberation of the island, a point appeared in the sea from which the Armed Forces can move. The next step was the return of “Boyk towers” to the control of Ukraine.
Liberation of the Zmiiny Island
It became known about the release of Zmiiny on June 30, 2022. Then the Russian occupiers fled the island.
Earlier, the Main Directorate of Intelligence said that it was not possible to free Zmiiny the first time, so the de-occupation of the Ukrainian island in the Odesa region was carried out in three stages.
