Launch of Zircon missiles over Ukraine: Budanov explained the goal of the occupiers

The head of the Main Directorate of Intelligence, Kyrylo Budanov, said that Russia is using Zircon anti-ship missiles against Ukraine, launching them from the temporarily occupied Crimea.
Such a weapon against civilian infrastructure was chosen for a reason – the occupiers hope to break through air defenses in our skies.
The general told about this on the air of the national telethon.
— Zircon is primarily an anti-ship missile. It has quite serious tactical and technical characteristics. By using Zircons, Russia hopes that it will be able to penetrate our air defense system. That is the whole logic, and there is nothing else there, – noted Budanov.
He added that the Russian Federation would have no problem launching these missiles as long as it could do so from the Crimean Peninsula. According to him, there are several launchers specifically for Zircon.
Zircon hypersonic cruise missile
Zircon is a maneuverable anti-ship missile with an air-rocket engine. It is designed to destroy ships (frigates, aircraft carriers) and ground objects.
Zircon is a supposedly hypersonic missile that has a flight range of over 1,000 km and speeds up to Mach 9 (3 km/s).
Russia used it against Kyiv on February 7 and, according to preliminary data, on March 25.
